‘Say a prayer for sun’: Wiscasset officials eye weather for graduation

Wiscasset Middle High School Principal Charles Lomonte said Tuesday night to expect a decision by Wednesday night on whether to keep graduation on Thursday or move it to Friday due to rain. Either way, it’s at 7 p.m., officials said.

“We continue to watch the weather,” Superintendent of Schools Terry Wood told the School Committee via Zoom. “And we’ve already had some conversations as to what the tipping point will be for that decision. But we will keep everyone posted.”

“Say a prayer for sun,” Lomonte said.

Tuesday evening’s National Weather Service forecast at weather.gov for Wiscasset Thursday night showed a chance of showers and wind gusts as high as 20 mph; Friday night was looking partly cloudy.

Meanwhile, virtual marching practice on Tuesday had the seniors feeling comfortable, asking questions and getting “really pumped up,” Lomonte said.

A quick guide released last week has details on times, parking, masks and more for graduation, from the ceremony at Wiscasset Speedway to the parade in town and fireworks at WMHS.
