Rotary’s focus on the future through ‘Under 35’ memberships
Are you an ordinary person who wants to do extraordinary things? Are you 18 to 35 years old? Are you wanting to make the town, country, or world a better place? Are you interested in leadership mentorships by successful professionals?
Rotary’s Vice President Tory Paxson, grad of BRHS, describes Rotary is “A group of like-minded individuals who get together to make a difference. It matters not at all that we come in many shapes and sizes, backgrounds, or age-ranges; after a short few years in our local Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor, it’s apparent to me that that what we have in common is more important than any differences: we believe in Service Above Self.
In line to become Rotarians are a number of recent grads of BRHS and others. The group comprises a wedding planner, a new grad of Maine Maritime, an IT programmer, a marketing agent, and most recently inducted, the owner of a local business in Boothbay called the Second Cup. Here is Florin Iuga’s story:
Florin Iuga is 24 years old and he was born in western Romania. His family has been in the flower shop business for over 50 years. He writes “ I’ve learned from my family that if I worked hard I would be well accomplished in life. I graduated high school in 2014, went to Theological Baptist Institute in Bucharest for three years and then moved to the USA. I worked for Linekin Bay Resort and also Ports Of Italy. During the winter of 2018 my young friends and I opened Brisetto’s Coffee Corner in Romania. I left the business with my mom and came back to USA to work with Ports of Italy. In January 2020 I opened together Brisetto’s Second Cup. After opening in May 22 I had a great season, lots of support from the community, especially my mentor, Garry Stewart, and worked without a day off until Oct. 30. I’m planning to reopen in the spring 2021 and to be more involved in the community. My motivation to join Rotary is that I share the same thoughts: helping others around us. My goal in life is to share everything with people that can’t afford something like we do. My long range goal is to open an orphanage or a foundation to help kids that didn’t received the love and attention they needed. Everything that I’m doing day by day it’s motivated and comes from inside, I don’t think I can explain that - it’s just the drive to succeed and leave a mark for a better world.”
If you, like Florin and others, want to make a mark in the world, we in Rotary offer you our support through a low rate membership. Contact a Rotarian at 410-353-3861
