The Reverend Canon George Maxwell will be returning to All Saints By-the-Sea for the next two weeks. On both July 31 and Aug. 7 he will celebrate Holy Communion at the 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. services. A social hour with refreshments follows the 10 a.m. service. At 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2 and Tuesday, Aug. 9, Rev. Maxwell will lead a discussion group on the church porch.

Also mark your calendars for Saturday, Aug. 6 at 5 p.m., for the All Saints, St. Columba’s annual joint choral evensong celebration with Anthony Antolini and the Lincoln Festival Chorus. A free-will offering is taken at this service to benefit the year-long Community Outreach program of the two churches.

Rev. Maxwell is the vicar of the Cathedral of St. Philip, Atlanta. In addition to his teaching, preaching and pastoral duties he is responsible for the operations of the Cathedral and the development of its staff, programs and ministries. Rev. Maxwell is also a member (and former chair) of the Bishop’s Advisory Council for The Church of the Common Ground that provides support “for the spiritual, social, emotional and physical needs of Atlanta’s unhoused men and women”. He is a founding member of the faculty for Learning to Lead (L2L), a training course established by the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta to apply the principles of Adaptive Leadership to the church. Rev. Maxwell is a spirituality faculty member for CREDO, a wellness program for clergy of the Episcopal Church. He is also a member (and former chair) of the advisory board of directors of the Georgia Justice Project. In 2011 he was inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr. International Board of Preachers at Morehouse College. He earned a master's of divinity degree (with a certificate in Anglican studies) from Emory University in 2004, and served as the interim director of Emmaus House before moving to the Cathedral in 2005. Rev. Maxwell’s first vocation was law. He graduated from the University of North Carolina and Duke University School of Law, and worked as a corporate lawyer in Atlanta for 20 years, leaving Alston & Bird in 2001.

All Saints by-the-Sea is on Southport Island on All Saints Road about two miles on your left as you drive south on Route 238 (look for the Episcopal Church sign by the side of the road). Parking is available along Route 238, or if necessary, in the limited number of handicapped parking spaces off All Saints Road. A golf cart will ferry persons from the handicapped lot to the church steps. You may also come to church by private boat or by the tour boat Novelty, which leaves Boothbay Harbor from Pier 8 at 9 a.m. Novelty picks up passengers from the church dock at 11:40 a.m. for return to Boothbay Harbor.
