Reserve your spot at the Potluck Supper
Commodore Krow conducted an efficient and important first board meeting of his tenure and in future weeks we will have items from that meeting to highlight our column. Most committee chairs have been appointed and an initial operating budget is in place and ready to go.
Social events are not ending even though the mooring field is almost empty and boating activities (except for the Junior Program’s High School sailing team which sails the 420’s through the end of the month) have come to an abrupt halt. Soon the gang from Blake’s will be bringing in the moorings and the docks. Tonight is the last regular weekly cocktail party but the beat goes on next week( Thursday) when Andy and Alice Mutch and Gardiner Rapelye will host the annual Halloween at the Mutch home on Plummer Road on Southport.
If you haven’t made reservations for the annual closing Potluck Supper tomorrow night please call Alice Mutch immediately for your “to bring” assignment/selection and make your plans to be there. In addition to all of the home made goodies, Chef George has agreed to cook a party ham to highlight the food table.
Saturday should also be on your calendar to participate in the annual closing “Work Day” when 250,000 (plus or minus) small little chores are handled quickly and efficiently by eager members. Jim Matel has a list, you can pick which jobs you want to do or be assigned by the team leaders if you have no preference. By 10:30 a.m. the coffee and donut holes will be gone, the list will be completed, and the clubhouse will be shut down for the winter.
The Junior Program Foundation will shortly launch its annual winter appeal for funds to enable its ongoing efforts. Your contribution to this effort helps to support, among other things, scholarship monies to enable young people whose families cannot afford the opportunity to learn to sail in turnabouts, Opti’s, and 420’s. This past summer over $10,000 was awarded deserving young people.
The Foundation also helps the Junior program acquire and equip boats and ancillary operations needs to conduct and improve the program. The High School sailing team is one of the major beneficiaries of this part of the program. All gifts to the foundation are tax deductible within the limits of the law as applies to your own personal tax status. Your participation is sincerely appreciated by the junior sailors.
The BHYC Junior Program Foundation is chaired by Rob Wheeler with a board of five (three non-BNHYC members) and members treasurer PC Tony O’Neil and secretary Mary Lou Newstead.
