Distracted driving is the reported cause for a two-car crash April 8 at the intersection of Townsend Avenue and Union Street.

John Salorio, 78, of East Boothbay was driving a 2015 Subaru Forester westbound around 4:15 p.m. along Union Street. According to Boothbay Harbor police officer John Braley, Salorio failed to stop at the intersection and struck a 2020 Hyundai Palisade broadside causing damage. The Hyundai was driven by Paul Roberts of East Boothbay who was carrying a passenger and traveling northbound on Townsend Avenue.

“It was concluded (the Subaru) failed to stop at the sign at the intersection due to distraction,” according to the accident report.

Roberts and his passenger reported minor injuries, but neither was transported by ambulance. Fire and ambulance crews were on scene assisting with medical issues, traffic control, management and cleanup.
