A new addition to the current exhibition, “Birds - Art to celebrate the Year of the Bird,” at Mathias Fine Art has been captivating visitors for the last few days. Paul Feyling’s newest film about a nesting, “Anna’s Hummingbird,”  is set up and ready to delight and fascinate. A loop of 40 minutes in Blu-Ray format introduces the viewer to the secret world of nest building and egg-laying of this tiny avian powerhouse.

The bird is integrated into the gorgeous greens of a natural background of vines, yet the filmmaker’s lighting technique permits one to see the hummingbird in astounding clarity and detail. The film adds both sound and animation to the exhibition without detracting from the other works of art. A splendid addition! This exhibition runs through Aug. 5.

There will be a poetry reading by Dr. Ellen Luise Hart on Friday, July 27 at 2 p.m. Come, listen to Dr. Hart read poems by Emily Dickinson and other poets who have celebrated the special qualities of birds.  The presenter is a Bath native who has generously agreed to share her knowledge and love of verse with us during this free event. Join us, and maybe bring your own favorite bird poem along.

Mathias Fine Art is located at 10 Mathias Drive in Trevett. Gallery hours: Wednesday through Sunday noon to 5 p.m. and by appointment. Additional information and images can be viewed on the gallery website www.mathiasfineart.com/events or call 633-7404.
