Planning board wants revised land use ordinances on new website
The new Edgecomb municipal website has the old land use ordinance showing, and the planning board wants that to change. The board is considering making several recommendations for improving the website. One is to replace the old land use ordinance with the new one.
The board spent the majority of its June 2 meeting discussing further updating the newly revised land use ordinance and proposing changes to the new website.
Voters approved the revised ordinance during the May 21 town meeting. The updated version has about 50 fewer pages and is more user-friendly, according to the board.
The website became fully operational the same week of the town meeting. Before making changes, the board wants the Ordinance Review Committee to further update the revised ordinance. The state recently approved a new shoreland zone ordinance. The board wants the ORC to review the town’s new land use ordinance so it complies with state regulations. The board also wants the committee to make sure the newly adopted language along with the state’s new shoreland zone ordinance are on the website.
The board will also review the website’s overall functionality. The board will spend between 15-20 minutes during its next meeting compiling a list of recommendations. During the board’s June 2 meeting, members briefly discussed several concerns about the new website.
”I think we need to meet as a group and address these issues,” said Chairman Jack French. “There is still information on there that isn’t accurate. We also need to recommend improvements which make it better and more descriptive.”
The list of proposed improvements may include a more descriptive introduction to each website section and an improved frequently asked questions section.
The board will meet next at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 16 in the municipal building.
