She attended a secondary school and trade school in the Netherlands and was employed there as a secretary at Caltex, Oil Company.

In the Netherlands, she was a huge fan of the baseball team that her brother played on for several years called the “Storks.” There she made friends who later moved to the United States and who inspired her to also emigrate to the United States.

In 1987 Piet, as she was known in America, and her husband Lee moved to Boothbay Harbor to live in a beautiful brick home they built on Townsend Gut.

During her years in Boothbay Harbor, she was employed at the Boothbay Harbor branch of Key Bank, retiring in 2010.

She never lost her enthusiasm for sports and was a devoted fan of baseball, football and basketball.

Although she loved to travel to visit her family and friends, especially her sister Astrid and her niece Wendy Reilly, her heart always remained in Boothbay Harbor.

She was a happy person who was always full of laughter to make one smile and laugh especially during her years at St Andrews Village.

She is survived by her brother, Frits den Broeder of Geldrop, Netherlands; two sisters, Inge Faro of Indio, California and Astrid van Mannekes of Hollywood, Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay with her beloved husband Lee.
