Perkins, Chatterton and Ranta to race at Class B states

Fri, 02/14/2020 - 5:45pm

Seahawks indoor track coach Nick Scott announced athletes Will Perkins, Nathan Chatterton and Quinn Ranta will be competing at the Maine State Class B Indoor Track Championships at Bates College Feb. 15.

“(It) is a hard feat to accomplish as the fields are capped at 14 competitors, which essentially means that you have to hit the automatic qualification mark,” said Scott.

During the outdoor season, fields are capped at 36 competitors, said Scott. This means were it outdoor season, nearly all athletes who qualified provisionally would have a spot at states.

However, Perkins, Chatterton and Ranta will not be going it alone – both 4x800m and 4x200m relay teams have qualified for states which means runners Graham Harris, Fox Elder, Ryan Russell and Jordan Pait will be going as well.

The 4x800m relay team is seeded at 23rd out of 23 teams; the 4x200m relay, 23rd out of 29; Quinn Ranta is seeded 14th out of 14 athletes for the 55m hurdles; Perkins and Chatterton, first and 11th out of 14, one-mile run; and Perkins, first out of 14, two-mile run.

The first event for Seahawks athletes will be the 4x800m relay at 12:55 p.m.; 55m hurdles semifinals, 1:30 p.m.; 55m hurdle finals, 2:15 p.m.; one-mile run, 2:45 p.m.; two-mile run, 4:30 p.m.; and the awards ceremony will be at 5:30 p.m.

Scott said all team members are welcome to go to states to cheer on their teammates. There will be an admission fee of $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
