One of the busiest weeks
The past week has been one of the busiest in the history of the club. Combine normal
operations with the huge Junior Olympic event and the walls were bursting from dawn to dusk (and later).
Let’s talk about the losers first. The Friday night drawing losers we mean. The first week of the $50 dining credit drawing was won by Jack Anderson. He wasn’t present so it rolled over to the next week and winner PC Ed Gibson was also among the absent. Last week with the pot at $150, Norm Bleycher’s name was drawn by VC Lee Krow and he was AWOL so this week, tomorrow night, the pot is $200 … be there to win.
Sunday night our own Mel Rines held a sell out crowd spellbound with his personal experiences in worldwide political and geographical situations.
Tomorrow is the Classic Boat Race and luncheon organized by Bob Vawter. This is always a fun and exciting event. Speed is not the primary goal as sailing skills and experience is the byword.
Word has come that there will be a Calcutta this year (tennis, of course).A “Calcutta” is a tennis event open to all levels of tennis where we play tennis for fun and each player is handicapped by the handicapping team of Larry Rioux and Sumner Lipman.
You are either on the “Striper” or the “Mackerels.” There are two teams and the teams compete from 3 to 5:30 p.m. After the competition there is a cocktail party from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and a barbeque dinner serving chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs and the works that go with them at 6:30 p.m.
Thanks to the folks from Southport under the direction of Alice Mutch and Gail Nassif for last week's cocktail party and tonight it will be hosted by the Edgecomb folks under the direction of Diann Ring.
Saturday we have a tennis doubles tournament and the second Commodore’s Cup sail races. And Tuesday evening is the always popular Wine Tasting Dinner.
