Ocean Point Column: The Porch Party, reminders and more

Tue, 08/27/2019 - 3:00pm

Summer is winding down here at the Point as several families have left to prepare their kids for the upcoming school year. The feel of fall is in the air as cooler temperatures and crisp clear days seem to be the norm this week.

The results of the Sunday softball game on Aug. 18 were as follows: Team Rush defeated Team Dawson 12-10. Andy Smith was the winning pitcher and Kyle Rush and Charlie Connolly making some excellent hits throughout the game and Dan Anderson hit a home run.

Thanks to Peter and Patty Gardner for hosting the Porch Party last Saturday evening, a large crowd gathered on their front lawn, It was a beautiful evening and gave us all a chance to be together socially one last time before the season ends.

The Casino is now officially closed and is preparing for demolition; the Wi-Fi is disconnected as is power and water. I would suggest to parents that they remind their children to stay away from the building; the playground is still in operation.

Thank you to Pete Ripley, Link Brown, Paul Taylor and Andy Smith for spending many hours this past Monday removing items that will be donated.

Brian Donovan, Member in Discernment, Midcoast Maine Association of the UCC, will conduct Sunday services on Sept. 1 beginning at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome.

It’s nice to see David and Pam Ripley visiting at the Merton cottage for a couple of weeks and enjoying time with family.

Just a reminder to all if you are leaving remember the Food Pantry, they are always happy to receive donations of non-perishable items; don’t forget to check the expiration date.

Some of you may be able to continue with the CLYNK program this winter. I’m certainly going to try, let’s see if we can keep it going. Contact Paul Taylor if you have questions.

Enjoy the beautiful weather and have a great week!
