Ocean Point Column: Planned weddings, the casino and more

Tue, 03/31/2020 - 1:00pm

It’s been some weeks since my last Ocean Point column, in fact, we had just returned from a quick trip where I reported everything appeared so peaceful and calm. Events of the last few weeks have certainly presented us all with some challenges that are certainly less than peaceful and calm!

I don’t have an abundance of news for the column but I decided this was the best way to keep us connected given the fact that all of our circumstances may be varied depending on where you are at this moment.

I do hope everyone is well wherever that might be. I have heard or reached out to many Ocean Pointers and am delighted to say that all seems well, we’re all doing our part to insure the health and safety of our families, friends, neighbors and, everybody really.

On a happier note, I recently had the opportunity to speak with Tim Martin, former owner of what is now the Chambers cottage. Tim and his wife Peggy made a decision last summer to purchase a motor home and see the country! They are enjoying visiting many beautiful and historic landmarks along the way; they are currently on the California coast halfway between L.A. and San Francisco. They will be departing there shortly with their next planned stop in Oregon and a visit with their son Chris. Chris and his fiancé Kristen Vollmer are planning an Ocean Point wedding in September.

Dan Shea and his fiancé Kim O’Brien recently became engaged and they are planning an August wedding. Congratulations and best wishes to both couples.

Other good news is that our Casino project is moving along quite rapidly and is really taking on a character of it’s own! You can notice such similarities to our grand old Casino built back in 1905,very exciting.

If you are a contributor to the project and made a three-year financial commitment, you are being asked to submit that final pledge as soon as possible, and if you are not currently a donor but would like to become one, we welcome your financial generosity. Please make contributions payable to the OPCT Preservation Project, and forward to the OPCT, P.O. Box 642, East Boothbay, ME 04544.

You may have recently heard the song “What a Wonderful World” being played quite often on a TV commercial. Each time I hear it I think of how fortunate we are to have our own “wonderful “ Ocean Point and our community!

Stay safe, stay well, stay positive and have a great week everybody!
