First ... Happy Easter to everyone!
Would you like to write a short simple story about a pet, family stories, or something comical? Author Jean Larkin is offering a Casual and Fun class at The Community Center on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon starting April 12. The class is limited to four people, so sign up promptly! People Helping People is a Senior Support Network on the Boothbay Peninsula. Seniors need rides to medical appointments (and sometimes just to the grocery store). We rely on volunteers to drive our members to these appointments. Most appointments are in town, but occasionally members need to go to Damariscotta or Brunswick. Our membership is growing, so we could really use some additional volunteer drivers to assist us with our program. Your availability would be at your schedule. We invite you to call us at 633-9876. Thank you.
Now for a little more information about Mexican Train Dominoes, which we play on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Last week I told you a little bit about some game strategy for Mexican Train Dominoes. As promised, here is a brief glossary of terms. (I hear there are over 65 different versions of Mexican Train Dominoes.) UNO – When you are down to one tile you alert players by saying “uno.” Or, just tap your tile loudly on the table to announce you are down to one tile. If you don't indicate uno before the next player plays, you must pick two tiles. Golden Domino – When you can't play and you draw a tile from the boneyard that is exactly what you need, you have picked the Golden Tile. Monkey Wrench – When everything looks great and everyone is close to going out, then someone throws down a double and everyone must pick (Groan). Bingo Tile – This is the Double Blank or Double Zero domino tile.
Now for a few “funny” terms: Grapes – Nine. Double Nine (in purple) look like grapes! Scrambled Eggs – Yellow colored dotted six tile. Think egg yokes. Picture Frame – Green dots around in a square pattern is the number eight. H – Number Seven (7) on a dotted domino tile looks like the letter "H." The Tile of Death – When there are few tiles left to pick and you are down to the end. Your goal is to pick low tiles so you can go out without many points. Maybe. Or maybe not! You pick a "tile of death," a double 12 or 12/11 tile. Start counting those points! Stragglers – Tiles that don't match the rest of your hand!
