New healthy options at the Y NOT Cafe
Eddie Crocker wants kids to focus on both eating right and exercising.
Crocker, the camp, youth, teen and recreation director of the Boothbay Region YMCA, knows the best way to lead is by setting a good example, so he doesn't just talk about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. He lives it.
Over the past nine weeks, Crocker has lost between 25 and 30 pounds participating in Meagan Hamblett's “Total Body Challenge” workouts. They take place every weekday between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m., and classes vary between the cycling room, track, cardio room and swimming pool.
He has also made strides in healthy eating for both himself and the kids at the Y.
“We got rid of the Ramen noodles and some of the junk food at the Y NOT Cafe,” Crocker said. “We replaced them with healthy choice soups and veggie trays. One meal would be a grilled cheese with a healthy choice tomato soup. We work hard to keep prices low so kids can afford the snacks.”
Y Executive Director Andy Hamblett said he appreciates Crocker's efforts.
“He doing a great thing, for himself and the kids as well,” Hamblett said.
