The Maine Marine Patrol has added a new state-of-the-art vessel to its fleet. The Endeavor, a 42-foot vessel with a Calvin Beal hull, was built by Farrin’s Boat Shop in Walpole and launched recently in South Bristol. She will be home ported in West Boothbay Harbor.

“The crew at Farrin’s has decades of experience building Maine lobster boats and were great to work with. They built a stout vessel that will serve Patrol’s mission for years to come,” said Marine Patrol Captain Matt Talbot.

The P/V Endeavor will replace the P/V Monitor, a 22-year-old 35-foot Young Brothers’ which was damaged by electrical fire in 2019.

The new, larger vessel will provide a safer and more stable platform for Marine Patrol Officers while hauling and inspecting lobster gear in both near-shore and off-shore locations. It will accommodate a 14’ rigid hull inflatable (RHI) that can be carried on deck and used for at-sea boarding’s which are conducted to check vessels for compliance with marine resources laws.

Like the Monitor, the Endeavor will be assigned to Marine Patrol’s Section 2 (Freeport to Bremen) where it will be operated by Specialist Evan Whidden.

Endeavor has a 15-foot beam and is powered by an 800 horsepower V8 MAN Tier III diesel engine with a ZF500-1A marine gear.

“The Endeavor is a high-perfomance addition to Marine Patrol’s fleet,” said Colonel Jay Carroll. “It will fill the void left by the loss of the Monitor and allow our officers to more effectively conduct vital enforcement and search and rescue activity in this very busy section of the coast.”
