Juniper-McKown Point Column
Many residents heading home
Sat, 08/17/2013 - 2:00pm
The summer of 2013 is gradually being used up but we are still enjoying the many celebrations and activities that have been made available for us for our 100th birthday celebration. July's Cottage Walk will stand out for many as one of their favorite events. The walk was a huge success, with comments such as "I've lived here 70 years and never seen some of these places." Everyone enjoyed learning a little history and especially the socializing, meeting new neighbors and reinforcing the sense of community. Thanks to the 24 cottage owners, the more than 120 people who came on the walk and the volunteers at the Community House and cookie bakers who provided refreshments. It was a special event for our community.
We all owe a big thank you to the team of cooks and organizers who provided us with great blueberry pancakes and waffles to enjoy during last Saturday's Tennis Exhibition. The exhibition was a great success and many pancakes were enjoyed by all. There was a great turnout and the courts dried from last weeks showers just in the nick of time. The doubles duos competed valiantly to claim the coveted Roland Garros title. The end of the year junior team championships will take place this Tuesday or Friday. Stay tuned!
The Hazelton cottage has been overflowing with family members. Among those in residence are Dan and Donna from France; Dan Jr. from Costa Rica; Whitney, Kristin, Hudson and Harper from Vero Beach, Florida and Brook, Erin, Henry, and Emmanuel from France. Mark and Jacque overlapped with part of the clan but have now returned to Arizona. What a whirlwind of activity. How lucky we all are to have a wonderful area for all our families to congregate.
Many of our residents have already headed home but some plan to return in time to enjoy the fall colors. Among those are Jim and Lynn Gibbons and Mary Barrett. Those of us who stay around until after Labor Day have ordered some perfect weather. Hopefully the weather man will get our message
The Barnes will be spending the next couple of weeks out of our area as we head to southern France to join daughter Jennifer and her husband. They have rented a house there for a month in celebration of her big "60" and many friends and family have been assigned the week they will visit to help join in her festivities. During that time our JPVIS news will be be turned over to Lee Corbin for the next issue, August 22, and to Ann Dooley for August 29th. Please send your news and activities to them.
