Making a 5-year-old’s birthday special during pandemic

Thursday, April 23 was Tom and Breanna Davis’s daughter’s 5th birthday. Of course, Kennedy’s planned party was canceled and she was disappointed to not share the day with her friends.

“I did what I could to make it special and I was successful but what made it such a success was the people of Boothbay! I put a yard sign by the road (we live on Route 27) and we got what seemed hundreds of honks! It was so much fun and we could see by the smiles on all the drivers’ faces that they enjoyed it too. Her daycare, Lighthouse Learning Center, even came to sing to her and delivered homemade cards and gifts. An ambulance drove in blaring fun music. It was truly the most special day,” said Breanna Davis via email. “She also received cards from family and friends in Texas, Florida and Maine.”

“But there is one person in particular that really just made my heart happy, Lisa Hallinan. She had driven by, saw the sign and wanted to help make Kennedy’s birthday special. She had no idea who lived in the house, she just knew she wanted to put a smile on a little girl’s face. She delivered a box of M & M cookie ice cream sandwiches and a bouquet of flowers. We do know each other through family friends but she had zero idea it was us. It was the most loving selfless act.”
