Lots of activity for Villagers
Last week, Village residents and community citizens brought their treasures to Appraisal Day. Expert John Bottero of Thomaston Place Auction Galleries judged the value of each antique piece.
Patrons paid a small fee for each item appraised. Proceeds went to one of the Village’s favorite organizations: Lincoln County Animal Shelter in Edgecomb.
Next day, Administrative Director Wendy Roberts had arranged for the annual barbecue dinner for people who are on the waiting list to move to a cottage or to the Inn. Music was provided by Jeff Grosser on the banjo, accompanied by a bass viol musician. It was a fine party on a pleasant evening. Thank you, Wendy!
On the following Friday, several residents traveled to the Maine State Music Theater in Brunswick, to see “Dream Girls.”
Jerry Wiles returned the next Tuesday, to report on the life of Robert Todd Lincoln, the last surviving son of our 16th president. As is most usual, all seats were filled. Robert was a distinguished person in his own right and strove not to be in his father’s shadow.
Windjammer Days saw two busloads of Villagers traveling to the Tugboat Inn Restaurant for lunch and for a clear view of the Windjammers as they sailed into the Harbor. From morning’s calm to afternoon’s chill and vigorous breezes, there was such a contrast that the visiting boats didn’t linger.
Later, some residents added warmer and waterproof garments before being bussed to the entrance of Emery Lane, where chairs had been set up under a couple of canopies so Villagers could watch the parade. Rain was blowing in but for seasoned parade-goers, that was all part of the day.
Everyone agreed that the parade was excellent, in spite of the rain.
Each month, there’s an afternoon birthday party with make-your-own sundaes (Oh, that special hot fudge sauce!) and a large cake for everyone. The party honors all residents with birthdays that month. Everyone’s invited. There were many June babies celebrating at Thursday’s party.
Friday is the day Gregory Wing residents make pizza to share with everyone. For Independent Living people, “The Matchmaker” was the day’s movie.
Independence Day comes next.
