Looking forward to new Ocean Point casino

Dear Editor:

I am very pleased to see that the new casino over here at Ocean Point is really coming along fast. Since late last fall, it has been coming to life. Of course, these projects take quite a lot of time. I have been walking around the Point quite frequently and checking how the casino has been coming along.

The walls have been built and workers are starting to close in the areas where the new doors and windows will be placed. Also, the roof is almost done as of today, March 15.

I’ve always missed the old original casino, which unfortunately burned down near the end of September 1974. It was a very terrible loss.

I remember going down to the old casino from my grandparents’ camp at Grimes Cove, playing the piano for everyone and hanging out with other kids. People could bowl there and the older folks would play shuffleboard, which was common activity when I was a kid. I played shuffleboard, too.

Hopefully the new casino will be open before July 4th. Its design nearly matches the old casino, with a wrap-around porch, a new tennis court and a new basketball court.

I can’t wait until this summer when all of us Ocean Pointers get to enjoy our new casino.
