Let’s reopen Maine’s economy

    Dear Editor:

On Saturday, May 2, my friend Shirley and I participated in the rally to reopen Maine. There were hundreds of people there.

It was so nice to have great weather. It lifted our spirits. We had such a huge crowd of many different people. Lots of families with children, older people in wheelchairs, young people and, of course, workers without jobs.

One of the speakers was a doctor from Bangor telling of not being able to cross state lines to help people with other needs because they could not get care in Bangor. She had to quarantine for two weeks before helping anyone across county lines. She finally did get treatment for them.

I have never seen so many people out at a rally. It was not negative like it was on April 20. No one was nasty to us. The people  were so nice to one another and polite. It was so good to see children with the families. They want to be able to get back to work and back to school. We need tourism back and people to get back in their cottages. No. 1 industry in Maine. We need to do them safely but not what the governor has said … opening hotels in in August? Let’s all help to reopen Maine!

And don’t forget to help our fishermen. We really need them.
