Last call for winter reunion
Paul Schacknow has sent out the last call notice for the winter reunion in Palm Beach! Time to fish or cut bait has now arrived.
Speaking of Florida, last Saturday I sat high above the port in Fort Lauderdale looking out over the expanse of Port Everglades and out to sea past the harbor inlet. There racing for all they were worth were two packs of small sailboats (one a group of 420s and the other a pack of Optimists) all from the Lauderdale Yacht Club (LYC). This inspiring sight brought to mind our esteemed member Buck Gillette who sailed on so suddenly a few weeks ago.
Buck was a major supporter of Junior Sailing and was instrumental, as commodore of LYC, in making its program one of the strongest in the nation. It occurs to me that there could be no more appropriate memorial for Buck than a gift to the BHYC Junior Foundation for the new 420 purchase in his memory. Please feel inspired to do so and call or email PC Tony O'Neil today to make your appreciation of Buck's service to both BHYC and LYC a lasting gift.
The order for the 420s has been placed and we are told it includes majestic spinnakers in red, white and blue, with the burgee embossed thereon. We expect these boats to be in use in April when the high school sailing program begins. We have almost reached the financial goal and your gift will help make all of this a reality.
Weekly meetings of the Lunch Bunch and the men's luncheon are out in force every week and attendance is totally open for all members of BHYC.
