The Boothbay Lady Seahawks stormed to an 18-4 first quarter lead and never looked back, as they captured their sixth win of the season by defeating Lisbon, 51-42, at Porter Memorial Gymnasium. Boothbay extended its lead to 24-6 in the second quarter before the Greyhounds narrowed the gap at halftime to 28-18, as Boothbay coach Brian Blethen began playing all his substitutes. Boothbay improves to 6-1. The Lady Seahawks are in second place in the Class C South Heal point standings. Lisbon drops to 4-4 and is in sixth place in the Class B Heal Point standings.

Junior Glory Blethen was the game’s leading scorer with 20. Other Seahawk scorers were Chloe Arsenault with 12, Josey Smith with six, Jaelyn Crocker with five and Kylie Brown with four. Coach Blethen attributed his team’s strong offensive output to outstanding ball movement in the halfcourt offense. Blethen attributed the offensive improvement to better court awareness which he said his team struggled with earlier in the season. The team is better at using “backdoor cuts” which have opened up the halfcourt offense. “It’s allowed us to move the ball more efficiently. Good passes make good shots and that’s what you’re seeing out there,” he said.

Boothbay can reclaim Class C South’s top spot with a road victory against  No. 1 Winthrop (6-0) on Wednesday, Jan. 8.  The Seahawks also have a make-up game at Monmouth on Monday, Jan. 6.
