Lady Seahawks face down Hall-Dale
During the second meeting of the season, Boothbay Region High School Lady Seahawks girls varsity basketball team defeated the Hall-Dale Bulldogs, 48-28, in Farmingdale, February 5.
The last time the two teams met on January 5, Boothbay beat the Bulldogs by 18 points. Exactly one month later, a similar showdown ensued in a game fraught with turnovers and personal fouls.
Despite the inconsistencies from both teams, the Lady Seahawks found their rhythm in the first and final quarters, where post play and fast breaks benefited Boothbay. In the first quarter, Allison Crocker scored 7 of her 9 points for the game, and during the fourth quarter, Morgan Crocker scored 8 of her game-high 12 points.
After the game, senior captains Sarah Caron and Alex Clarke weighed in on their team’s progress throughout the season. The captains credited coach Tanner Grover for teaching them to recognize certain offensive schemes employed by their opponents.
“Our defense has improved tremendously. We’ve been able to adapt to every team’s offense,” Caron said.
Over the course of Alex Clarke’s career at BRHS, she said her freshmen year the Lady Seahawks went 2-16. Three years later the tables have turned, and Boothbay’s record could reflect the reciprocal (16-2), if they can close the regular season with a win over Wiscasset, Friday night.
The Lady Seahawks (15-2) will host the Wiscasset Wolverines (4-13) February 8, at 7 p.m, which is Senior Night at Boothbay Region High School.
