Labor Day party at Marianmade Farm to benefit Wiscasset library

Thu, 08/09/2018 - 9:00am

You are invited to a party on Labor Day that will include heavy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, a lively band, and a silent auction of many valuable items. In addition, each party goer will be given a free raffle ticket for a chance to win a $100 certificate for dinner at the Little Village Bistro, donated by the restaurant.

The Bands for Books event takes place from 5-7 p.m. Monday Sept. 3, at Marianmade Farm, a picturesque lavender and flower farm and wedding site, on the Sheepscot River in Wiscasset. It’s the fifth year Friends of the Wiscasset Library have held this event to raise funds for projects to keep the historic 1805 library building in good shape — such as painting, heating, and roof work.

Highlight of this year’s silent auction will be a set of books donated and autographed by local author Lea Wait from her Maine Needlepoint Mystery series, including the seventh book in the series, which is not scheduled for publication until the end of October. In addition, the auction will include two cases of wine, an airplane ride over coastal Maine, original paintings, framed prints, pottery, a picnic basket stuffed with goodies, a homemade cake and other items.

The lively and talented band The Salty Dogs will once again play rock-and-roll music from the 1950s to the 1980s — so get your dancing shoes ready.

Generous local sponsors include Ames Hardware, The First National Bank, First Federal Savings and private patron Jenn Spaur.

Tickets for the library fundraiser are $20 ahead of time and can be purchased at the library at 21 High Street in Wiscasset. Tickets also can be purchased for $25 at the event itself, located at 155 Federal Street in Wiscasset.
