Knickerbocker Lake Association to meet July 30

Tue, 07/16/2019 - 8:15am

On Tuesday, July 30, the Harbor Theater in Boothbay Harbor will be the location for a 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. forum on the Boothbay Region’s water supply, which will also serve as the Knickerbocker Lake Association’s annual meeting. This informational event will feature a short documentary, two guest speakers, and light refreshments catered by Eventide Specialties. The event is free and open to the public. Boothbay Region Television/Channel 1301 will be taping, for subsequent airing.

In past years, the annual Knickerbocker Lake Association meeting has been an opportunity for Association members to learn and discuss recent findings related to Knickerbocker Lake. This year, we recognize that both public water supplies are critical to the entire community and are broadening the focus to include Adams Pond and inviting the community at large to attend.

Matt Scott, an aquatic biologist, will share valuable facts, findings, and insights regarding lake dynamics, and the risks - or what is at stake - for all those who depend on a fresh water lake public water supply. Matt is past president of the North American Lake Management Society.

Maine Lakes Society’s LakeSmart program director, and employee of the Maine Congress of Lake Associations, Maggie Shannon, will also speak about self-monitoring and best practices for lake preservation. Maggie has energized a very successful and popular program embraced by numerous lake and watershed residents throughout Maine.

The Boothbay Region Water District will provide an update on its work related to watershed conservation and its commitment to providing safe drinking water to the community.
