From John Vander's new Tuscany paintings currently featured at Gold/Smith Gallery, Boothbay Harbor. Courtesy of Karen SwartsbergJohn Vander splits his time between the Maine coast and Tuscany, Italy. He's done this for 35 years and while moving from one side of the Atlantic to the Mediterranean can be a logistical challenge, the paintings he creates seem to get more intense and richer every year.
Working on paper, his "ingredients" vary from oil pastels, colored pencils, watercolors and collage; a mixed bag of colorful delights. These paintings capture the depth of history and the profound nature of what he experiences in his beautiful Tuscany.
Gold/Smith Gallery is located at 8 McKown St. in downtown Boothbay Harbor and is open daily 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
