Interact members attend leadership conference
Boothbay Region High School students from Rotary’s Interact Club recently attended the “New Generations” leadership conference at Thornton Academy in Saco.
The conference’s keynote speaker, Deepa Wallingford, a Rotarian from California, obtained a grant from The Rotary Foundation, titled “Hunger and Humanity.” With help from Rotarians, she is completely rehabilitating a village in India, including bringing literacy to children and adults, securing health and dental care, clean water and sanitation, vocational training and micro lending to help change the face of human trafficking and poverty.
Another focus of the conference was polio eradication. Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries in the world that still have known cases of polio. It was noted that the “New Generation” can look forward to the end of polio worldwide.
Any interested high school students may join the Interact Club. Contact any current member or Ingrid Merrill, BRHS German teacher and Interact advisor.
