High School Sailing set to begin this month

Tue, 03/03/2020 - 1:00pm

It’s hard to believe but the Boothbay Region Sailing Club is soon to get underway with its spring racing program.

The first day of practice, March 16, is just around the corner! The Boothbay Region Sailing Club is getting boats ready, dry suits repaired, and all things organized for the new season. This sailing program is open to all high school students in the region From Wiscasset to Damariscotta, including Boothbay Harbor, Southport, Edgecomb and Newcastle. The program is also the official sailing team for Lincoln Academy.

The sailing program is sponsored by the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club and made possible with the generous support of the BHYC Junior Program Foundation.

The Boothbay Region Sailing Club was created to provide an opportunity for local youth to learn to sail and compete in local and regional racing regattas. This program builds individual and team skills, competence and confidence on the water. The team practices locally four days a week and competes against other high school teams throughout Maine.

For more information on the sailing program go to BHYC.net and click on the Junior Programs High School Sailing link where you will find downloadable registration forms for this season and financial aid forms.

The Boothbay Region Sailing Club will host an open house at the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club Wednesday, March 11 at 6 p.m. Come and meet some of the sailors and learn what the spring and fall programs are all about.
