God’s will

    Dear Editor:

My dear fellow Democrats, our party just got its butt kicked and deserved it. It had forgotten that its base is not hedge fund managers and Wall Street bankers but working people. These are the people with blisters on their hands and dirt under their fingernails who have see their labor go poorly rewarded and their concerns neglected; who, longing for change and fed up with the status quo, voted for Donald Trump.

In 2008, they voted for Obama, hoping for change. It didn’t happen so the same winds of passion, which swept Obama into power, are now behind Trump. If there was passion on the Democratic side, it was for Bernie Sanders, whom the DNC chose to abandon. Now they are paying the price.

I have changed my mind about nothing as far as Trump and Clinton are concerned. However, Trump has stated some objectives myself and other Democrats could agree with. While watching him carefully and “holding his feet to the fire,” we cannot play obstructionists as the Republicans have done for years, but consider the good of the party.

My classmates of 1956 may remember that I was voted class optomist — I still am. I hope for some good to come out of this. My daughter, Selina, and I did not think Trump would win but if he did, it was God’s will.

Lastly, he did win the election if not the popular vote. Barring accidents, we’ve got him for the next four years. Get over it.
