The Boothbay Region High School Lady Seahawks varsity soccer team suffered its first losses of the season to the Dirigo Cougars, Lisbon Greyhounds and Monmouth Falcons.

On September 14 the Lady Seahawks traveled to Dixfield to take on the undefeated Dirigo Cougars. In the first half, the Cougars jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, but were stymied by Boothbay's defensive pressure, led by Brenna Alley, in the second half. Jaime Wheeler came up with 12 saves in goal and only gave up one goal in the second half.

Boothbay's home opener on September 16 showcased a determined Lady Seahawks team improving its skills on both ends of the field. Despite two goals scored by midfielder Sinead Miller, Boothbay was outmatched by the Greyhounds, who scored six goals in the first half.

Coach Kim Dionne said Boothbay was only bringing the pressure in the second half, and they needed to bring up the intensity for whole game.

“I have been very proud of the my freshmen and the way they are taking control of the game,” Dionne said. “We have really strong players, and with a little more confidence and a win under our belt, I believe we have the potential to be a strong team.”

The Lady Seahawks visited Monmouth Academy September 17 and were shut out 7-0. Boothbay's defense improved, and goal keeper Jaime Wheeler saved 70 percent of shots on goal. Boothbay continued to show a strong performance from the freshmen squad, specifically Angie Perkins, Chayanne Rogers and Collette Bertin, Dionne said.

The Lady Seahawks host the Mountain Valley Falcons at 4 p.m. on September 19.
