Gabrielle Wenners-Ericson: Future game art animator
Boothbay Region Top 10 student Gabrielle Ericson-Wenners wants to bring art to life. She will study game art animation at Mount Ida, a four-year college in Newton, Massachusetts. For the last two years, she studied commercial art in the Bath Regional Vocational Center technical program.
She creates advertising and designs logos as part of her technical education. Gabby considered a career in graphic arts before deciding to pursue game art animation. She said a lot of factors were involved in her decision. She wants a career making illustrations come to life.
“It was a different choice for me. I thought about graphic arts, but it wasn’t my passion. I want to do something that matters to me,” she said.
Ericson-Wenners has spent the last two years at BRHS. She previously attended Wiscasset schools for grades 5-10. The Edgecomb resident says BRHS provided her the opportunity to see a new community and experience different things.
“I learned how to adapt. It gave me an opportunity to see different things and helped me progress through high school,” she said.
Ericson-Wenners, an honor roll student, is a National Technical Honor Society member. She received the honor last year. In high school, she participated in track and cross country. She also had a “major participation” in concert choir.
“That’s something I’m especially proud of,” Ericson-Wenners said.
Gabby is anxiously preparing for her next step in her education. She has spent the last 12 years in elementary, middle and high school and is now preparing to go out of state to a private college.
“It’s a whole new level. It’s a big step; I hope I’m ready for it,” she said. “It’s a big transition in life and I’ll be on my own for the first time.”
Her favorite high school memory is the annual BRHS Winter Carnival. She remembers making several suggestions in her junior year to make the event more enjoyable.
“I was curious what Boothbay had for winter carnival because we had it in Wiscasset, too. I made some suggestions like an obstacle course and all sorts of other fun things,” Ericson-Wenners said.
Gabby is the daughter of Shannon Wenners of Edgecomb.
