Friends returning for the summer
Day by day the Point is livening up with the return of long time friends, new neighbors, and visitors. This is heartwarming. Plans for great summer activities are in progress, starting with exercise classes at the Casino on July 2 that include something for everyone’s needs and pace. We already await the traditional Parade and Chicken Barbecue on the 6 of July.
This year the Horribles Parade starts at Van Horn Road. Tickets for the barbecue are on sale by phone at 207-633-7202, and will be on sale at the Casino on July 3 from 9 to 11 a.m. and July 5 from 3 to 5 p.m.
This traditional supper marks the opening of enjoyable activities. Of course there are so many other pleasures that we have independently, sometimes just breathing in the spruce/salt air and watching the uniquely gorgeous sunsets is fulfilling. It is obvious that Ocean Point is a special place in our hearts.
John and I, as members of the seal rescue group, were contacted to check out a seal floating at Grimes Cove. We reported it as a deceased newborn wailing, which is always a sad call, but the seal population is expanding beyond the capability to rehab them all.
This problem is the downside of the natural cycle of life. Please report any seal, alive or dead to (207-233-3199) so the seal rescue group can get a handle on the current population problems on how to maintain their health as a group.
We are awaiting the annual pleasure of watching the beautiful vessels of yore come breezing in to the Harbor under full sail on Windjammer Days, on June 25, 26, 27. A delightful sight, especially if you are waiting on the sea side front on the white rocks, you can wave them a warm welcome and departure.
We did that with our first summer visitors, the great grandchildren – such fun. Jean Slayton's grandchildren have grown up. Nat passed Architectural Registration exams and is a fully fledged architect. Zachary has graduated from high school, and Becket graduated from grade school. They all look forward to a summer visit. We look forward to seeing them, just like most families here. Pat can be reached at: 207-633-3669 or waldman1@roadrunner.com.
