Friends make annual donation to library
Joanna Breen, director of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library, recently received a donation from Ann Kelley, president of the Friends of the Library in the amount of $12,000. The Friends group formed in the 1960s and has been supporting the Library since then. During normal years, the Friends annual donation has been $30,000, but for 2020 the store had to be closed for most of the season which reduced the receipts considerably. The support given during this trying year is greatly appreciated.
The Used Book Store, operated by the Friends, will open this year for weekends (Friday through Sunday) starting May 21. It is hoped that the store will be able to be open daily, as usual, beginning in June. Small book donations are being accepted; please limit them to one or two bags of clean, undamaged books as space is limited.
Meanwhile, books are appearing on the porch of the bookstore. These books are available 24/7 for a monetary donation.
The Friends is an all-volunteer business — all the books sold are donations from the public and all the profits are donated to the Library. Anyone wishing to volunteer to work at the store is welcome to call Sam Stevens at 350-6772.
