Tidal Transit Kayak is offering free guide training for Boothbay region residents. This intensive training typically costs $400-500, and is designed to prepare you for the state testing process. Training takes place on and off the water, and topics covered include trip planning and navigation, risk management, rescues and towing techniques, group management, and more. All necessary equipment and materials are provided. In order to be eligible for this opportunity participants must live in the Boothbay region, be able to work as a guide, and be willing to take a background check as part of the state application process.

Tidal Transit has trained more than 60 Maine guides over the past 10 years. Last year was the first time the training was offered at no charge for area residents, and three locals took advantage of the opportunity and completed the process to become Registered Maine Guides. Sea kayak guides are in a high demand throughout the state, and guiding is a great way to spend summers working outside.
