Food Pantry is well stocked and open

Mon, 05/18/2020 - 2:15pm

Rain or shine, the Boothbay Region Food Pantry continues its regular schedule. It is open from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Friday. The pantry is located on the ground floor of the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor. Go to the church’s lower parking lot, located at 125 Townsend Avenue.

Who is eligible to come on Fridays? You are!

If you are new to the pantry, please feel welcome! We will be glad to serve you. We know that family budgets are frequently falling short these days. At present, the pantry is well stocked, and we are eager to help anyone who needs assistance to bring nutritious and tasty food to you and to your family during these tough times. The pantry’s service area is: Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb and Southport. There are two food pantries ready to serve you if you live in Wiscasset. Of course, if you are a regular client in the Boothbay Region Food Pantry, you can come once every four weeks – unless you have a food emergency and need to come sooner than usual.

In order to remain safe during the pandemic, each Friday clients stay in their cars in the church’s lower parking lot, where they fill out a form listing their food preferences and convey it safely to pantry volunteers and pantry directors. One of them will pack a bag or box for you that will include as many of your food requests as possible, plus some extras that we may have in stock. A pantry volunteer will bring your food box to your car. All safety procedures recommended by the CDC and Governor Mills will be followed, including six-feet distancing and masks.

At 1:30 one or more tables loaded with food items will be brought outside. Anyone and everyone in the region is encouraged to pick up (and place in bags that will be provided) such perishable items as deli foods, baked goods – including bread - as well as fresh fruit and vegetables. These items, left over after our regular pantry hours, are yours for the taking. They are fresh, but will not keep until the following Friday. Be prepared, of course, to stand at least six feet from the persons ahead or behind you as you wait in line for these tasty, fresh, and free bags of food.

Questions? Please call the food pantry at 350-2962 at any time. Be sure to leave your name and number on the pantry’s voice mail if necessary. A pantry director will be pleased to help you.
