Firefighters respond to Rocktide Inn laundry room blaze
The Boothbay Harbor Fire Department extinguished a blaze Tuesday morning in the Rocktide Inn laundry room. Smoke filled the room after a dryer caught fire around 8:40 a.m. Fire fighters had the blaze under control within minutes, according to Boothbay Harbor Fire Chief Nick Upham.
No one was hurt in the fire, said Upham. He also said there was only minimal smoke damage to the laundry room and the dryer was destroyed. Firefighters are still trying to determine the fire’s cause.
“We don’t know if it was some chemical was used on the rags, or if it was another nylon bag,” Upham said. “I’m going to contact the fire marshal to see what he wants to do about it.”
This was the second fire in the Rocktide Inn laundry room in the past 38 days. The previous fire occurred on Aug. 15 after a guest filled the dryer with a large load of rags and set the timer for too long a time, according to the Boothbay Harbor Fire Department.
Boothbay and Southport firefighters also responded to the fire.
