Faith Blethen named conference Player of the Year

BRHS senior is one of several Seahawk athletes receiving Mountain Valley Conference post-season honors

Faith Blethen, who scored her 1,000th career point this past basketball season and was Boothbay Region High School’s leading scorer and rebounder in 2018-2019, was named the Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year by a recent vote of the league’s coaches. The BRHS senior averaged 21 points, 5.8 assists, 10.4 rebounds, 6.6 steals and 2.3 blocks per game this season.

Blethen, a co-captain, and her sister, sophomore Glory Blethen, were named to the MVC’s first-team all star team. It is the fourth straight year Faith Blethen has been named to the MVC first team. She was also MVC co-Player of the Year last year with Richmond’s Sydney Tilton

BRHS senior co-captain Ashley Abbott was named to the MVC second-team all star team. Junior Chloe Arsenault and sophomore Kylie Brown received honorable mention as MVC all stars.

Both Faith Blethen and Ashley Abbott were named MVC academic all stars.

Seahawk boys’ basketball players Steve Reny and Hunter Crocker were also honored by the league’s coaches. Reny was named a first-team all star and Crocker was named a second-team all star. Sophomore Ben Pearce received honorable mention as an MVC all star.
