Event raises $42,000

The Boothbay Charities Classic held another successful event last weekend, raising an unprecedented $42,000 for Special Olympics Maine. One of the main goals this year was to raise enough money to send athletes to the National Special Olympics in 2014. With the help from five gracious donors who offered $1,000 each, the BCC will be able to send five Olympians to the games to be held in Princeton, N.J.
The lobster bake and sports auction raised $18,000 on September 21, followed by the celebrity golf tournament, which renowned sportscaster Gino Cappelletti alongside Tom Nowaztke and Tom Matty said it was one of the best tournaments they had ever attended. Also participating in the match was celebrity coach Ian Frank who played with the Special Olympians Brandon Mullin, Trent Pellitier, Caitlin Brown and Susan Basso.
The winning celebrity team consisting of Steve Minic, Mike Pushard, Will Oxley, Adam Haskell and Kevin Brooks captured first place with the lowest net score. Individual winners of the long drive competition were Mile Olehowski and Kathy Heaton. Taking home the “closest to the hole” prize were Angie Hunt with a putt of 4 feet, 4 inches, and Russ Ham, putting 4 feet, 1 inch away from the hole.
The Boothbay Charities Classic committee would like to thank the many sponsors, volunteers, and businesses that made the event possible, especially the Special Olympians who without their purpose and presence, wouldn't continue to make the event an everlasting success.
