Edgecomb Eddy holiday concert December 19
Parents and friends of the Edgecomb Eddy School, you won't want to miss it! The school's Holiday Concert is Thursday, Dec. 19, starting at 6 p.m., expected to last about one hour. All EES students:0 you will need to be present in the library by 5:45 p.m. for vocal warm-ups before the performance.
Why does everything happen on Thursdays? Starting at 10 a.m., the same day, a public hearing about St. Andrews and Miles Hospitals will be held at the Boothbay Harbor Town Hall. This hearing is about a Certificate of Need, a bit of bureaucracy apparently overlooked in the months, yea, years of this dilemma.
Come and be part of the vocal majority; let Lincoln County Health know how you feel about losing St. A's emergency room and hospital beds. Without them, there are only 25 hospital beds for the entire county. And again, why have the patients, actual and potential, never had a say in such decisions?
The Town Hall offices will be closed Tuesdays, Dec. 24 and 31, for obvious reasons. Claudia and Deb will be on hand Thursday, Dec. 26, 1 to 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 30, 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, 1 to 5 p.m. They wish everyone a very merry holiday season!
I see the Schmid Preserve Board and selectmen are considering selective cutting once more. I am all for it. I don't know what went on that resulted in that long ago court order against cutting, and I'm glad I wasn't here, because from what I hear, it got to be pretty vicious.
Most nature preserves allow for some cutting, for fire safety reasons, and to encourage better growth overall. Any lumber cut that is not suitable for commercial use should be cut up into fireplace lengths, and given to families in need of winter fuel.
Last column before Christmas. Bruce and I wish everyone a joyful holiday season. Just now, we Camerons are rejoicing in a newly reshingled barn roof. The crew had three bee-yoo-ti-ful days in the sun to work in, although the wind reminded us all of winter.
I was amused to see the underpinning material they use is called RhinoRoof. Made me wonder if Santa Claus has given up on the North Pole and moved his operation to Mount Kilimanjaro. Rudolf, the red-horned Rhino.
