American Legion Post 36 member and East Boothbay veteran Ed Harmon is being honored for dedication to country and community in the national Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) #StillServing campaign. The VFW #StillServing campaign was launched in March 2020 to recognize the many veterans who continue to serve in their community after the military.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Harmon is #StillServing by founding the nonprofit Boothbay Veterans Emergency Temporary Shelter (V.E.T.S.). to provide short-term housing for homeless veterans who do not have immediate access to shelter.

In 2018, Harmon wanted to help local homeless veterans so he created a prototype temporary home by retrofitting a trailer. Subsequently he and a team of volunteers created 26 additional trailers with their bare hands, donated funds and contributed materials. Today Harmon continues recruiting help, funding and materials to keep his project alive, doing it out of his kindness and love for fellow veterans.

Harmon said, "There is a real need to solve our homeless and suicide problems among the veterans in our community and I am simply doing my part with the means and skills I have.”
