East Boothbay Methodist church donates Easter baskets to community fridge

Anyone looking for a last-minute Easter present should hop on down to the Boothbay Community Fridge. There are 20 Easter baskets filled with a Lindt Chocolate bunny, sunglasses, crayons, coloring books, Peeps marshmallow chicks, and bubbles.

Laurie Glasrud of East Boothbay United Methodist Church hatched a plan to do something special for the community. “I was at the Community Fridge when I had an idea for donating Easter baskets,” she said. “I found out the food pantry was donating 35 baskets and began planning our project.”

Church members Sarah Giles and Deb Moorefield joined Glasrud in the project. In recent weeks, the women informed the East Boothbay United Methodist Church congregation on their progress, and donations poured in.

Giles was glad to participate. “It makes you feel good doing something good for the community,” she said.

Most of the baskets were prepared on Palm Sunday. A storm hit the region Sunday morning resulting in their part-time pastor Neal Gastonguay missing the service. “Route 27 was blocked and he couldn’t get here from Bath,” Glasrud said. “So Sarah, my husband Tom and myself prepared the baskets for delivery.”

Glasrud and Giles delivered the baskets on Wednesday, March 27.
