Delegates chosen for Boys and Girls State
Boothbay Region High School has announced the junior class delegates chosen to attend the 2016 Dirigo Boys and Girls State conferences the first week of summer.
Attending Boys State at Thomas College in Waterville June 19-23 will be Carter Babcock and Samuel Betts.
Attending Girls State at Husson University in Bangor June 19-24 will be Angelique Perkins and Molly Thibault.
The program overview from the website, www.boysandgirlsstate.org, states: "American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State are the premier programs for teaching how government works while developing leadership skills and an appreciation for your rights as a citizen. As a participant in the program you, will run for office, learn public speaking, create and enforce laws and actively participate in all phases of creating and running a working government in this exciting and fun summer program."
Juniors are nominated by the faculty based on the following criteria: leadership, good citizenship, honesty, scholarship, cooperativeness, friendship and service to school.
The cost of the program is covered for all four students this year. Monies were contributed from the following sponsors: T & D Variety, Hawke Motors, First National Bank, American Legion Post #36 and the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club.
