Community churches tackle hunger
Everyday families across the nation and in our very own community face hunger. No county is immune. Families struggling to make ends meet through a treacherous winter rely on the Boothbay Region Food Pantry for food to sustain them, which puts a great strain on keeping the pantry shelves full.
Boothbay Region community churches are going to “Tackle Hunger” and help fill the food pantry not on the football field but through the local churches! On Sunday, Feb. 2, when millions of dollars are being spent on television advertising and party food for the Super Bowl game, churches are going to kick off their own game: “Souper Bowl of Caring.”
On that celebratory Sunday, congregations are being asked to bring donations of non-perishable food and/or money donations to worship. Each church will have an area designated for folks to leave donations as they come to church. Donations may be brought in advance of February 2. Please connect with your church office. At the conclusion of worship, counters will tally up money donations and non-perishable food items. The church bringing in the greatest totals will be the recipient of the Souper Bowl of Caring Trophy which will remain on display in that church until the following February.
At noon all food and money donations will be taken immediately to the Boothbay Region Food Pantry where volunteers will be waiting to receive your generous gifts.
Souper Bowl of Caring is a national movement in the fight against hunger. On Super Bowl Sunday more than 260,000 (11,000 teams) will be working together across the nation to tackle hunger and poverty. Our community of churches will join in this effort. Every dollar, every can of food you donate will go directly to benefit our own Boothbay Region Food Pantry. Checks must be made payable to Boothbay Region Food Pantry with Souper Bowl of Caring in the memo line.
Be a part of this movement that is sharing God’s love with those in need. Please give generously on Super Bowl Sunday. Call Sue Burge at 207-633-7049 with any questions.
