The Community Center during COVID-19

Wed, 07/01/2020 - 7:15am

Those who had been accustomed to gathering for cribbage, puzzling, mah jong, sewing, knitting, and companionship are missing the open doors at The Community Center. Those of us who volunteer there find that our mental calendars are on hold and we are missing the stimulation of meeting the daily challenges of providing services to our community. Everyone is asking the same question: When will we be open again? The short answer is: We do not know. As long as the virus is around and active, as long as our community is at risk, we will not be a hatching place for this killer.

The good news is that even though our doors are closed, we continue to provide some necessary services. We have durable medical equipment available for those who need it and we can deliver or arrange pick-up. We continue to make 911 signs. We have CLYNK bags available for your use. We provide a very active free library of books and puzzles for adults and children, and there are always surprise giveaways in the hallway outside our doors.

Remember. We are not going away, we are simply waiting this one out. In order to reserve our space, we will have an occasional fundraiser and will appreciate your support. Stay safe, wear your mask and wash your hands.

Call if there is anything we can do for you. (207) 633-9876. We look forward to the day when we can gather again at The Center.
