Coastal Senior College announces winter schedule
Coastal Senior College is offering a diverse group of classes for its winter session. Enrollment began in early December with the first classes to start in mid-January.
“Could Hitler Have Won? Part I, Germany’s missed opportunities in WWII” will be held on Mondays at Spectrum Generations in Damariscotta and taught by Charles Brockunier, who taught European history at Northeastern University. “With Pick, Axe and Trowel: Folk Architecture of America” will meet on Tuesdays at Skidompha Library and is taught by one of CSC’s most popular instructors, Arnie Aho. “You Can’t Say That! The First Amendment: due process, definition and decorum” will also meet on Tuesdays at the Nobleboro town office and is led by Harold Schramm, a former professor of English and Legal Studies.
Dr. John Burris, who has taught many popular CSC classes, will lead a class “Breathing and Beating” on the mysteries of the heart and lungs, on Thursdays at Chase Point in Damariscotta. “An Exploration of Early 19th Century Romanticism in Music” will be taught by Marge Roberts on Thursdays at the Camden Library.
A number of “how to” classes are being offered: a cooking class with David Atwater, “Luncheon with the Junior League,” which will meet on Thursdays at his home in Damariscotta; “From Whist to Bridge” with B.J. Frederick at Schooner Cove in Damariscotta on Tuesdays; “Making Friends with your Computer” with Beth Vetter and Nate Randall on Wednesdays at Hodgdon Green in Damariscotta; “Relief Printing,” in which Kay Miller will teach students the gamut of printing processes, will meet Fridays at the new Midcoast Printmakers’ Inc. studio in Damariscotta.
A study circle, taught by Paul Kando, “The Economy Hits the Fan: What’s a Citizen to Do?” is a continuation of a class from last session and will meet on Fridays at Skidompha Library.
Ongoing classes, which are free, include a Writers’ Group, which meets once a month in Camden on Mondays; the CSC Coffee House, a discussion group, in Rockland on Tuesdays; and “The Challenge of Change,” a discussion group that meets on alternate Wednesdays at the Friends Meeting House in Damariscotta.

CSC, dedicated to life-long learning, serves residents 50 and older from Boothbay to Camden and offers classes in the fall, winter and spring.
