At 9:47 Thursday evening, Coast Guard Sector Northern New England received a report that at 35-year-old male was seen jumping into the Kennebec River from a pier near Kennebec Tavern. The man has not been seen since.

Coast Guard Station Boothbay Harbor launched a 29 foot response boat and worked alongside Maine Marine Patrol, Maine State Police, Bath Police Department and local fire departments to conduct several searches. Crews searched through the night and continue search efforts this morning. The Maine State Police Dive Team is on-scene using a side-scan sonar to search below the water.

Water temperature on the Kennebec River is 40-degress and the currents move swiftly, making any activity on, or near, the water dangerous.

The Coast Guard and its partner agencies stress the importance of being aware of your surrounding when near the water. If you are going out on the water the Coast Guard encourages everyone to wear a life jacket, have a plan, and avoid alcohol. If you see someone in distress on the water immediately notify the Coast Guard.
