As of shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Stephen Hood, grandfather of Kendall Chick of Wiscasset, is on the witness stand in an Augusta courtroom. He is testifying as a prosecution witness in the trial of Shawna Gatto, who is charged with murder in the 4-year-old's death in 2017.

The Wiscasset Newspaper's Gina Hamilton reports, Justice William Stokes has warned Hood of his Fifth Amendment right against incriminating himself. And a jailhouse phone call has been played. On it, Hood pleads with Gatto to tell him what happened to Kendall.
