Camp PALS donates week-long campership to Boothbay Charities auction
The Boothbay Charities Classic, the annual lobster bake, sports auction and celebrity golf tournament taking place this week for the benefit of Special Olympics Maine, Sept. 26 and 27, received a generous donation to the auction from Camp PALS Maine this week.
Camp PALS Maine is offering a full week of camp at a to-be-determined location during the summer of 2015 ($1,400 value). According to its website, PALS camps create "immersive experiences where young adults with Down syndrome and their peers have fun, grow as individuals and build transformative friendships."
The recipient of the full week of camp must be an individual with Down syndrome, between the ages of 21-30, and the recipient must be eligible for camp based on criteria of independent personal hygiene and stamina.
The donation was made in memory of Myrna Snider Thomas of East Boothbay. Snider devoted her life to her brother, Howard, who had Down syndrome and lived to age 67 before his death in 2013.
The auction is being held Friday, Sept. 26 at the Boothbay Railway Village on Route 27. A silent auction will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and a live auction beginning at 6 p.m.
If you can't be at the auction, you may call in a bid to either Tony Krason (207-446-4771) or Brenda Blackman (207-380-7770).
