BRHS switching to remote instruction Jan. 27-29

Due to a person recently testing positive for COVID-19, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Keith Laser has informed parents and others that Boothbay Region High School will switch to 100% remote instruction for the rest of this week, Jan. 27-29. Boothbay Region Elementary School will remain open in the current mode of operations.

In a letter sent to families, Laser said contact tracing will be done on those who have been identified as a close contact of the person who has tested positive and “we will contact you within 24-48 hours.”

“This is not an outbreak,” wrote Laser. “Because of the protocols we have in place (masking, distancing, sanitizing, etc.), we are hopeful that there will not be secondary cases. We are not at liberty to divulge specific information about the person who tested positive.”

As a result of the positive case, remote classes/instruction for BRHS will start on Thursday, Jan. 27. BRHS students will not attend Bath Vocational School and there will be no athletic practices, games, or afterschool activities for the rest of the week.

“School officials will closely monitor this situation in collaboration with the Maine Center for Disease Control (CDC),” Laser wrote. “We will decide on the mode of operation for the week of Feb. 1-5 by the end of the day on Friday, Jan. 29.”
