The 49 members of the 2016 graduating class of Boothbay Region High School turned out in their best blue and gold for Awards Night on June 9 in the high school gymnasium. A crowd of 75 or so friends, family and well-wishers packed the gym to witness the students receive scholarships, awards and even more practical items like a band saw. Principal Dan Welch and guidance counselor Brook Newberg presided over the affair with ample help from librarian Jo Haney, who announced the 79 winners of the Book Awards to close the evening.

In addition, select members of the junior class were honored with scholarships and awards as a head start on their senior year. The presenters included local pastor Peter Panagore on behalf of Yale, Boothbay alumnus and Dartmouth grad Matthew Brown, and Linc Sample, who awarded his son, Nathaniel, the American Legion Post 36 scholarship. Special thanks was given to Heather Lorrain for her tireless efforts and dedication in organizing the event, said Newberg.
